Present Proverbs Part 1

The book of Proverbs is full of precious gems of wisdom for principled guidance in times of conflict, indecision, and loss of perspective about how we are to live in this world. As I recently read through the book, I compiled verses that struck me as having particular relevance to the Christian life I lead now and the times in which I live. The verses that follow are taken from chapters 1-10 of the book. It is my hope and prayer that they will serve your soul well…to the glory of God! -Nathan

Let the wise hear and increase in learning, and the one who understands obtain guidance. My son, if you receive my words and treasure up my commandments with you, if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, if you seek it like silver and search for it like hidden treasures, then you will find the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God.

Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them on your neck; write them on your heart, so you will find favor and good success in the sight of God and man.

Honor the LORD with your wealth.

The way of the wicked is like deep darkness; they do not know over what they stumble.

My son, be attentive to my words; for they are life to those who find them, and healing to all their flesh.

Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life. Put away crooked speech, and put devious talk far from you, Let your eyes look directly forward, and your gaze be straight before you. Ponder the path of your feet; then all your ways will be sure. Do not swerve to the right or to the left; turn your foot away from evil.

Concerning the forbidden woman: Her house is the way to Sheol, going down to the chambers of death.

The fear of the LORD is hatred of evil.

Concerning wisdom: whoever finds me finds life and obtains favor from the LORD, but all who hate me love death.

The LORD does not let the righteous go hungry.

The memory of the righteous is a blessing.

When words are many, transgression is not lacking, but whoever restrains his lips is prudent.

Doing wrong is like a joke to a fool, but wisdom is pleasure to a man of understanding.
